Electrical work for your boiler
A replacement boiler needs a suitable electrical connection and controls that work with the chosen heating arrangement. When the existing supply, isolation or wiring needs alteration—or a boiler is moved—we identify the electrical scope at survey and include the appropriate competent electrical work in the written quote.
Where the electrician fits
Supply, isolation and controls
The diagram shows the areas to check, not a wiring instruction. A thermostat, internet controller, cylinder controls or zone valves may need to be integrated with the new boiler; only components in the agreed design are installed.
When additional electrical work may arise
Boiler relocation
A different boiler position can need a suitable connection and carefully planned cable route.
New controls
Thermostats, cylinder controls, zone valves or smart controls may require compatible wiring changes.
Existing defects
Unsuitable or defective supply arrangements found at survey may need remedial work before connection.
What is involved
- Assessing and providing the agreed electrical connection and means of isolation.
- Connecting the boiler and included controls to the designed arrangement.
- Routing and protecting any new wiring that the quote specifies.
- Testing the electrical work and demonstrating the controls.
What we check at survey
- Existing boiler supply, isolation and visible wiring condition.
- New boiler location and practical cable route.
- Programmer, thermostat, cylinder controls and zone valves.
- Access, existing electrical issues and any specialist work needed.
What affects the quote
- Reuse of a suitable existing connection versus a new route or supply alteration.
- Number and type of controls and associated wiring changes.
- Distance, access, wall finishes and making good.
- Remedial work identified through inspection or testing.
What your written quote includes
- The exact supply, isolation, cable and control work allowed for.
- Who carries out the electrical work and what testing/documentation is included.
- Any required access or making good.
- Excluded repairs and how unexpected defects would be agreed.
Electrical work questions
Do I need an electrician for a new boiler?
The electrical work must be carried out by someone competent for its scope. We identify whether specialist electrical work is needed and who is responsible in your written quote.
Will you need to change my consumer unit?
Not as a routine part of a boiler replacement. If the existing supply or installation has an issue that affects the proposed work, it must be assessed and any necessary remedial work separately explained.
Can you reuse the existing boiler supply?
Possibly, if it is suitable for the new appliance and arrangement after assessment. A relocation or control change may require an altered route or connection.
Does a Hive or other smart control need more wiring?
That depends on the existing controls and heating layout. We check the selected device, boiler and any cylinder or zone-valve controls before quoting the integration.
Is the electrical work included in the boiler price?
The standard connection for the agreed installation should be clearly stated. Additional cable routes, controls, remedial work or decorative making good are included only when listed in the written quote.
Will I receive electrical paperwork?
Where the scope calls for electrical installation documentation, the quote should state what testing and records will be provided. The appropriate record depends on the work carried out.
Ask about the electrical scope
Send your postcode and photos of the current boiler supply, programmer and proposed new boiler position if available. We will confirm the work at survey.
