Radiator and TRV upgrades

Replacing a radiator, adding a new one or improving room-by-room control can be quoted alongside boiler work or as a separate job. We check the room, existing pipework and heating system before recommending radiator and valve options.

Know the parts

The radiator and its valves

A TRV responds to the temperature around it and adjusts the flow through that radiator. It is not a replacement for the main boiler controls, and not every room or radiator should automatically receive one.

Radiator with thermostatic radiator valve and return-side valveA steel panel radiator is connected by flow and return pipes. A thermostatic radiator valve head on one side adjusts water flow in response to room temperature. The other side has a return-side valve. Radiator size, valve position and pipe changes are assessed at survey.Radiator panelTRV headReturn valveFlow connectionReturn connectionRadiator panelTRV + flowReturn valvePositions confirmed at survey

TRV replacements

We can quote valve changes individually or up to five within an eligible package. We assess existing valves, room thermostat location and system compatibility first.

How we plan radiator work

Assess the room

We look at room size, heat loss, radiator position and what is causing any cold spots or uneven heating.

Check connections

We review pipe spacing, condition, valves, the room thermostat and access for draining and refilling the system.

Quote the exact scope

Your written quotation lists each radiator, valve and room, plus any pipework, system treatment or making good.

What is involved

  • Supplying and fitting the specified radiator or radiators.
  • Replacing or adding the listed TRVs and other valves where suitable.
  • Making agreed pipe alterations and reconnecting the heating circuit.
  • Refilling, checking for leaks and testing operation after the work.

What we check at survey

  • Room heating needs and the reason a radiator is being changed.
  • Existing radiator dimensions, connections, pipe condition and wall fixings.
  • Valve compatibility, room thermostat position and system arrangement.
  • Access, floor or wall finishes and any signs that circulation or system condition need attention.

What affects the quote

  • Radiator size, style, output and selected valve specification.
  • Number of radiators or TRVs and how far pipes must be moved.
  • Draining, access, disposal and the extent of making good.
  • Any separate system cleaning, balancing or repairs identified at survey.

What your written quote includes

  • Each radiator and valve by room, with the exact count of TRV replacements.
  • Supply, fitting, pipe changes, testing and any disposal included.
  • Any eligible up-to-five TRV package terms applied to that quotation.
  • Clear exclusions and separately priced work or finish.
Standard installation versus optional work: a boiler replacement does not automatically include new radiators or TRVs. The up-to-five TRV option applies only where shown in the written quote and where the surveyed system is suitable. No fixed price, savings claim or universal product specification is assumed.

Radiator and TRV questions

Can I replace just one radiator?

Yes, we can assess and quote a single replacement. We check the room, pipe connections and the selected radiator before confirming scope.

Does “up to five TRVs” mean five on every quote?

No. The quote must identify the eligible package, number of valves and rooms. Some radiators may not be suitable or may need a different control arrangement.

Will a TRV fix a cold radiator?

Not necessarily. Air, circulation, sludge, controls or pipework may be the issue. We assess the cause before recommending a valve or radiator replacement.

Will the new radiator use my existing pipes?

Sometimes. Different sizes or connection centres may require pipe alterations. These should be described in the quote.

Do you remove the old radiator?

Removal and disposal are specified in the written quote; tell us about difficult access or any heavy or unusual unit.

Can I have a TRV in the room with the main thermostat?

The controls need to work together. We check the room thermostat location and the system design before deciding where TRVs are appropriate.
